Life can be scary sometimes.
I mean world problems spinning out of control.
Our economy suddenly crashing.
Then throw in calamities that blind side us. Our heath collapses. Marriage stresses. Our business or career blows up.
So what do we normally do?
Way too often I’ve worried. I mean I can develop a whole paranoia out of the simplest setback.
But the problem with that? It doesn’t solve the issue. In fact it usually paralyzes us from finding a solution. And sometimes we actually see our worst fears happen simply because we zeroed in on them.
So what do we do?
Often we can’t change the problem immediately. But we can change our focus.
That’s what I love about this verse. It gives me a positive focus.
“ And I pray that you and all God’s holy people will have the power to understand the greatness of Christ’s love—how wide and how long and how high and how deep that love is.” (Ephesians 3: 18 NCV)
First, no matter how far out there your problem is God has seen it before. You can’t go anywhere that he isn’t there already. And if he knows about it he has a plan to solve it.
Second, no matter how long it takes God will be with you through it. He won’t give up if you don’t. Hey, he won’t give up even if you do. His love never changes and it never wears out.
Third, there’s no mountain so high that God can’t knock it down. In fact Jesus said we can tell any mountain to move and it’s going.
Fourth, you can’t sink to any depth that God doesn’t offer you a way back. There is no place God hasn’t seen and rescued others from.
And when we change our focus from obsessing about our problems to God’s all conquering love for us we’ll change from the inside. The problems may not instantly disappear. But a peace and confidence will flow. And that will unleash the power to overcome the problems.
When has a focus on God’s unconquerable love helped you?
