The Mystery That Changes Everything

“So the Word became human and made his home among us.”  (John 1:14 NLT)

The Christmas story is a tough nut to crack.  I would guess most of us have struggled at times with believing God would somehow come to the earth he made and inhabit a human being so he could live here with us.

We wonder, “But how?  How does God become a human?  How can a person fully human and fully God inhabit the same body?  And what difference does it make anyway?”

Those are honest questions.  And you know they’re ok.

But if we stay bottled up in them it keeps us from exploring the amazing life God has prepared for us.

But how do we get past the questions?

I guess in the same way we deal with so many mysteries that we take for granted because everyday we see them work.

Understanding how light from a star we see in the sky began it’s journey while dinosaurs still roamed.  How invisible sound waves travel through air impacting our ears sending electrical impulses to our brains that translates into hearing.  How hearing our child cry for the first time melts our hearts.

And on an on.  So many things we can’t explain but trust in because we experience them.

Trusting in God’s presence with us is the same.  We trust a little and experience some.  We trust some more and experience some more.  And over time trust slowly supplants doubt.

We can’t explain it all but we can experience it.

How does faith grow for you?

Oh, and Merry Christmas!
