Finding Joy When Face to Face With Death

“The promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.”  (Ephesians 1:14 NIV)

If you’ve had a parent, child, sibling or close friend die I would guess you’ve stopped and wondered, “What really comes after this life?  Is Heaven real?  Am I going there?  Is my loved one there?”

All very real and normal questions.   And nothing wrong with that. [Read more…]

Unlimited Power Now!

“Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit.”  (Ephesians 1: 13  NIV)

We have amazing spiritual power available to us.  Real miracle working power.  Yet, most of us experience very little of it.  We talk about God’s power yet rarely see it.

I think one of the traps we fall into is a “performance mentality.”  We think, “If I just do enough right things.  Give a little more money.  Go to church more regularly.  Volunteer more.  Then God will unleash his power in my life.”

But you know, as good as those activities may be, they can actually keep us from seeing God’s miracle power. [Read more…]

One Tactic That Unlocks Spiritual Power

“And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation.”  (Ephesians 1: 13 NIV)

Let’s be real.  I think most of have doubts sometimes about God, heaven, our salvation and the whole laundry list of other things we’re supposed to believe in.

Deep inside we wonder at times, “Is it all true?  If it is true am I saved?  Am I going to make it?” [Read more…]

You Are Chosen for Greatness

“It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone.” (Ephesians 1: 11-12 MSG)

Do you ever feel just beat down and beat up?  You look around at others who seem so much more successful and wish you were them?  You get discouraged and wonder if you’ll ever succeed and truly make a difference?

It seems like our world is set up to keep us down.  Throughout our lives the message from our teachers, parents, families, bosses, government so often is, “You’re one of the masses.  Stay in order.  Color inside the lines.  Come to work, do your job and don’t make waves.  Do what you’re asked we don’t need your input. Finding Confidence In a World Out of Control

“This plan, which God will complete when the time is right, is to bring all creation together, everything in heaven and on earth, with Christ as head.”  (Ephesians 1: 10 GNT)

We live in a world that seems out of control.

Mad men threatening nuclear holocaust.  Countries stealing territory and daring others to stop them.  Terrorists killing each other and threatening to kill us.

Our government spying on us, lying, attacking if our views differ from theirs. [Read more…]

Unlocking The Confusion

“He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him.”  (Ephesians 1:9 NAS)

I don’t know about you but I find life pretty baffling at times.  Whether trying to make my marriage work, raising kids, my career, health, this blog.  Frankly there are a lot times I just don’t get it.

I look around at other people who seem to have it so much more together.  And I think, “What’s wrong with me?  They seem so much further ahead.” [Read more…]

Miraculous Answers to Our Most Vexing Challenges

“The riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.”  (Ephesians 1: 7-8 NIV)

I don’t know what you’re facing today.  A career from hell that’s imploding.  A marriage self destructing.  Your health collapsing.  Depression engulfing.  Debt overwhelming

Seemingly impossible challenges with no answers.

You’ve tried everything.  You’ve searched.  You’ve asked others.  You’ve read books. [Read more…]

Set Free!

“In Christ we are set free by the blood of his death, and so we have forgiveness of sins. How rich is God’s grace.”  (Ephesians 1:7  NCV)

As a pastor I counseled those struggling with self destructive behavior that threatened to destroy their lives and the lives of those that loved them.

Yet, I also realize we all struggle at times with our own self destructive behaviors.  It may not be drug addiction or alcoholism, though it could.  But what about workaholism, dysfunctional ways of relating to people, destructive emotional responses? [Read more…]

Let’s Celebrate

“He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son.”  (Ephesians 1:6   The Message)

We’re all bombarded by the negative.  Assaulted by news sensationalized to make us angry or afraid.

Pressured with our jobs, health, marriage, kids, finances.

Then when we finally tune out and settle down to watch TV we see more hatred and mayhem in an evening than most soldiers will see in a tour of duty.

And it leaves us down, depressed and upset. [Read more…]

An Amazing Father

“God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.”  (Ephesians 1:5 NLT)

So many children live in single family homes in the U.S. and it’s tragic.  In some segments of our society it numbers well over 50 percent.

Yet, we all need the connection of both parents.  We crave the approval and love of our father and mother.  But so many are deprived of that.

And it leads to all kinds of issues. The statistics are startling. [Read more…]
