“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2: 8-9 NIV)
The best summary for launching the amazing life I’ve ever found.
Pretty simple. Yet, so hard to rest in.
So many get it right in the beginning but then add layer upon layer of religion until their new life is squelched. They start in that simple faith but then insidiously drift into trying to keep God’s blessings through their own efforts. Finally their life collapses into frustration and anxiety. Or they just give up.
Not exactly the amazing life. I’ve been there and done that. Don’t intend to ever go back.
So what is this key?
Let’s look at it.
First, it all comes by God’s grace. Nothing else. And out of that grace he forgives us. The past is finished. A new future is ahead. And remember nothing you’ve done is beyond God’s grace to forgive.
Second, we’re saved from the emptiness and despair of this life. And we’re given this new life beginning now and for all eternity. The fear of death recedes and in its place a glorious hope is born.
Third, we’re given this new life simply because we have faith enough to ask for it. That’s all that’s required.
Fourth, we’re set free from the tyranny of trying to be good enough to earn it. We’re free from the fear of failure. Free to live full out.
Fifth, we’re given it as a gift. We can’t earn it. We can’t lose it.
Sixth, no more comparisons. We have nothing to boast in. No more “Super Christians.” We’re free to be ourselves and live fully.
Pretty clear. A great passage to memorize for when doubts hit.
