“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” (Ephesians 2: 10 NLT)
I’m not surprised so many people don’t go to church. Actually, sometimes I’m surprised by the number that do.
I mean so much is taught about how worthless we are and unworthy of God’s love.
And while the latter is true the former is false.
Yet, when someone focuses on that they don’t see their life as an adventure but rather as an ordeal. They see themselves as someone God’s just putting up with.
They view their life as a cosmic mistake. Not designed for anything great. Just here to do their best to get through it.
Wow, no wonder so many people feel defeated. Mediocre looks like a high rung.
Yet, this passage shows something entirely different. And if we can wrap our minds around it our lives will be transformed.
Look at who we really are. Then focus on that when challenged with doubts.
First, we’re God’s masterpiece. He didn’t grab us off the scrap heap. He lovingly crafted each of us into a work of beauty and value. Picture that in your mind.
Second, through Christ he created us anew. The old stuff fell away. He recreated us into the person he planned for us to be.
Third, he created us as his masterpiece not to set on a mantle and admire but to do great works. He put power and gifts into each of us. And like our Father we’re creators.
And fourth, none of this is an accident. Oh, maybe you were an accident to your parents. But you weren’t an accident to God. He saw us before we were born. He planned for us before we arrived. He gave us each a unique set of gifts.
Imagine what would happen if this was your focus. Imagine your life if every time you felt useless you pictured who you really are instead.
I think it would transform our lives. We would see that greatness lived out. And nothing and no one could ever discourage us again.
What does living in greatness look like to you?
