Choosing an Adventuresome Life

I often wonder, “Why do so many Christians live such boring lives?”

I mean we talk and sing about this great adventure of life yet so few seem to live it.

At church a few paid professionals work their tails off trying to keep all the plates spinning

And so few church members live any adventure other than reality TV. [Read more…]

Living Your Passion Everyday

Writing this blog challenges me like few other ventures.  My emotions battle constantly.

Some days I feel elated.  Sometimes I want to quit. [Read more…]

Why I Find Church Frustrating

Frankly, I find going to church pretty frustrating.  I didn’t go anywhere for four years after the church we attended melted down.  Just couldn’t motivate myself to go back.

I find most churches seem irrelevant. [Read more…]

How to Build the Foundation for an Extraordinary Life

I find life confusing at times.  And often my spiritual life.

So I read spiritual gurus.  But I find most write primarily out of their experience?  Even popular Christian writers.

No doubt their discoveries have helped them personally and sometimes are quite insightful.  But they don’t necessarily work for everyone all the time.

I can head off on their trail and sometimes hit a dead end because we’re just wired up differently. [Read more…]

Created For Greatness

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”  (Ephesians 2: 10 NLT)

I’m not surprised so many people don’t go to church.  Actually, sometimes I’m surprised by the number that do.

I mean so much is taught about how worthless we are and unworthy of God’s love.

And while the latter is true the former is false.

Yet, when someone focuses on that they don’t see their life as an adventure but rather as an ordeal.  They see themselves as someone God’s just putting up with. [Read more…]

Launching The Amazing Life

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works, so that no one can boast.”  (Ephesians 2: 8-9 NIV)

The best summary for launching the amazing life I’ve ever found.

Pretty simple.  Yet, so hard to rest in.

So many get it right in the beginning but then add layer upon layer of religion until their new life is squelched.  They start in that simple faith but then insidiously drift into trying to keep God’s blessings through their own efforts.  Finally their life collapses into frustration and anxiety.  Or they just give up. Seeing the Unimaginable

“In order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.”  (Ephesians 2: 7 NIV)

Do you ever wonder why so many Christians seem defeated?

I mean we read awesome promises in scripture yet for so many reality seems detached.

I see promised an amazing life.

Yet I see way too much sickness, broken relationships and financial struggles. [Read more…]

Amazing Power Now

“And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.”  (Ephesians 2: 6 NIV)

So many people trudge through life defeated.

They’ve tried to accomplish great things.  Live their dreams.  Use their gifts.  Done what they’ve heard brings real success.

Yet, what happens?  Before long they hit roadblocks.  They find the journey far harder and way longer than they ever imagined. [Read more…]

“If It Feels Good Do It”

“All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful natureand following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath.”  (Ephesians 2:3 NIV)

Ah our title, the motto of the 60’s when I came of age.  Hanging with the hippies on Telegraph in Berkeley.  Tie-dyed t-shirts.  Love beads.  And all that went along with that life.

What a freaking mess. [Read more…]

Dead or Alive?

“In the past you were spiritually dead because of your sins and the things you did against God.”  (Ephesians 2: 1 NCV)

I’m baffled by how little people settle for in order to avoid a relationship with God.

I mean all of us want love, success, happiness.

And most of us probably on more than one occasion have gone about trying to get those things in less than stellar ways. [Read more…]
