Confidence Instead of Worry

“So don’t worry about clothes and food and drink.  Unbelievers obsess over these things.  Instead relax trusting that your heavenly Father knows exactly what you need.” (Matthew 6: 31-32)

Father,

I’ve spent far too many times worrying instead of trusting,

And yet I’ve watched as you provided for me even when I doubted.

Replace my doubts with faith and my worry with confidence,

Let me see clearly your provision for what I need most urgently.

Amen

Care and Confidence

“So don’t worry.  If God wonderfully cares for the wildflowers which bloom today and wither tomorrow he will certainly care for every need you have.  Have more faith than that.” (Matthew 6: 30)

Father,

When I begin to worry I can look around at how you care for even the flowers,

And remember how you have cared for me through it all.

When I start to doubt help me to see in faith your loving care,

And help me to rest from worry so I can appreciate your blessings.

Amen

Light in the Darkness

“You are the light of the world.” (Matthew 5: 14)

Father,

Thank you for filling the darkness of my soul with your glorious light,

And the joy of your light shining through me to illuminate others.

Fill me with your light, chase out every sliver of darkness.

And help me to shine your light into the darkness around me.

Amen

Joy in the Midst of Rejection

“Rejoice and be happy when you are persecuted because of me because you have a great reward waiting in heaven.  And remember they persecuted all of my prophets who were before you.”  (Matthew 5: 12)

Lord,

Feeling attacked because I follow you hurts,

But looking forward to my reward in heaven fills me with joy.

If I am rejected let it be only because I reflect you,

And in the hurt fill me with your inexplicable joy.

Amen

Peace Beyond Understanding

“Blessed are those who have found God’s peace and extend that peace for they truly are God’s children.”  (Matthew 5: 9)

Father,

Thank you for making me your child and filling me with your amazing peace,

And that you give me your peace no matter what the challenges and stresses.

Accept me as your child, fill me with your peace,

And help me to bring others to that peace as you’ve brought me.

Amen

Receiving and Giving Grace

“Blessed are those who give others grace for they will receive grace.”  (Matthew 5: 7)

Lord,

When I have failed you have forgiven me, when I have sinned you have given me grace.

And though I will fall you will lift me up and give me your mercy I can never deserve.

When I am hurt by others help me to remember your forgiveness,

And help me to pass on the grace you have so freely given to me.

Amen

Gaining Gifts I Can Never Achieve

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst to be right with God, for they will find fulfillment.”  (Matthew 5: 6)

Father,

Thank you for accepting me even though I can never be perfect enough to deserve it.

And that as I seek to please you, you fill me with blessings beyond any I could gain.

Give me your peace, fill me with your joy, let me feel your love.

Help me to rest in your righteousness and gain that which I can never achieve.

Amen

Comfort in Sorrow

“Blessed are those who mourn for they will find comfort.”  (Matthew 5: 4)

Father,

When I’ve felt I lost everything then I’ve found your greatest gifts.

When I’ve cried the hardest you’ve given me comfort that’s deepest.

Be with me in my times of sorrow, comfort me in my times of grief,

Give me eyes to see through the tears and hope beyond today.

Amen

Eternal Life of Joy

“The rich and powerful will worship the Lord, those who are mortal will bow before him.”  (Psalm 22: 29)

Lord,

You are my lord, the one who is all powerful,

The one who saves me, the one who protects me, the one who blesses me.

Save me in your grace, give me life in your love,

Fill me wonder in your majesty, and joy in your presence.

Amen

Needs Fulfilled, Joy Infused

“The poor will eat until they are full; those who seek the Lord will praise him now and rejoice forever.”  (Psalm 22: 26)

Lord,

I praise you that when I’ve been most needy you have been most generous.

And I praise you that you fill me with joy both now and forever.

Meet me in my need, feed me until I’m full,

Fill me with your joy for today and forever.

Amen
