“God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.” (Ephesians 1:5 NLT)
So many children live in single family homes in the U.S. and it’s tragic. In some segments of our society it numbers well over 50 percent.
Yet, we all need the connection of both parents. We crave the approval and love of our father and mother. But so many are deprived of that.
And it leads to all kinds of issues. The statistics are startling.
Much higher prevalence to crime, drug addiction, school dropout, welfare dependency, births outside of marriage and repeating the cycle.
And as hard as our government and social institutions try to counteract this breakdown the more solutions become illusive.
Yet, this passage promises something amazing.
God in his love desires to adopt us into his family. Maybe our earthly family wasn’t the best. But we can have a father who truly loves us.
And as part of his family we have all the power of God available to us as his adopted child. Like being adopted as the child of a king only better.
And he says that we bring him great pleasure. Think of your own children, if you have them, and the pleasure you feel in just being with them. This is how God feels about us.
And it comes simply by asking.
We may have natural parents who let us down but we have a spiritual father who never will.
When have you sensed God’s presence as your loving father? What difference did it make?
